How to Prevent a Life of Back Pain
Here are a few things you can do to help prevent a life of back pain:
Warm Up Before You Start Lifting
A few stretches before you start the day will warm the muscles and make them less prone to strain.
Plan Your Lift
Ask yourself a few simple questions:
1. What hazards are involved in the task?
2. How can I control these hazards and reduce, or eliminate, the risk?
3. How many people are needed to do the job safely?
4. What are the possible consequences of not lifting properly? That is, apart from the loss of your income and lifestyle.
Listen to Your Body
If you feel strain, it will probably lead to pain.
Lift Smart
Follow this simple guide to help you lift smarter and minimise injury.
1. Use your legs
2. Avoid bending and twisting
3. Keep your back straight
4. Carry the load close to your body

Be Fit for Work
You don’t have to be an athlete! Moderate, regular exercise will not only reduce the risk of injury, it will help you recover quickly if you are injured. Walking frequently is great exercise for your back. It is cheap, easy and fun!
